“Behind the Blue”: UK improves psychiatric emergency care with new EmPATH unit

UK HealthCare encompasses the hospitals and clinics of the University of Kentucky. But it is much more than that. It is more than 10,000 dedicated health care professionals committed to providing advanced specialty care to the most serious and sickest patients from the Commonwealth and beyond. It is also home to the state’s only National Cancer Institute (NCI)-accredited Comprehensive Cancer Center, a Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit that cares for the smallest and sickest newborns, the region’s only Level 1 Trauma Center and the hospital ranked as Kentucky’s Best Hospital by U.S. News & World Report.

As an academic research institution, we are continually working on the next generation of cures, treatments, protocols and guidelines. Our discoveries have the potential to change what is medically possible in our lifetime. Our educators and thought leaders are changing the healthcare landscape as our six health professions colleges educate the next generation of physicians, nurses, pharmacists and other health professionals, teaching the highest standards of care. UK HealthCare is the force of advanced medicine, committed to making Kentucky healthier now and for generations to come.
