Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong has sent another message to Everton following their victory over Liverpool.

The Blues celebrated a memorable 2-0 victory over the Reds in the Merseyside derby on Wednesday night. Jarrad Branthwaite opened the scoring for Everton in the first half before Dominic Calvert-Lewin sealed the win at Goodison Park.

It was the first time Everton had won a home derby against Liverpool since October 2010. The victory took the Blues one step closer to confirming their Premier League status and avoiding relegation.

Hours after the win, Armstrong posted a video congratulating Everton. The 52-year-old, lead singer of punk rock band Green Day, is currently preparing for a world tour for the group’s album “Saviors,” which will be released in the UK this summer.

“Hi Everton. What’s up? It’s Billie Joe Armstrong from Green Day,” Armstrong said in a video posted by Football Music and Me on X, formerly known as Twitter. “I just want to say congratulations to everyone. You kicked Liverpool’s arses and pulled off a fantastic win.”

“All right, now let’s play some poker,” Armstrong concluded, panning the camera to show a poker table behind him.

Armstrong’s video followed his first message to the Blues, which included a photo of an Everton player wearing one of the club’s shirts with his face on it. The post was a response to comments made by Sean Dyche expressing his admiration for Green Day.

Dyche recalled how former England international Stuart Pearce persuaded him to attend one of the band’s concerts and he has been a fan ever since.

“It just feels like two hours of high tension non-stop, with one song after another being beaten to death,” Dyche said on the Football, Music and Me podcast. “It’s impossible not to like it, I can tell you that!”

“This is my advice to you: If you haven’t seen Green Day yet – no matter what music you like – just buy a ticket and go see Green Day.

“I saw them with Stuart Pearce – he said, ‘You have to see Green Day.’ He almost forced me to see Green Day. And I thought, ‘Okay, okay.’ And he was right. They were in a class of their own.”
