Blitzen Trapper will perform a free concert at Jupiter on September 28 as part of a street party celebrating the hotel’s 20th anniversary. The party will run from 1:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and will span the Jupiter campus and parts of Southeast 9th Street. In addition to Portland-based folk-rock band Blitzen Trapper, there will be other musical performances throughout the day from Pura Vida, Blossom, DJ Anjali and MAITA. Blitzen Trapper will play his set from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
“Portland has always been a place where you had to dig a little deeper to find its treasures. At Jupiter, we’re committed to tracking them down and showing our guests the countless delights to be found here,” said Kelsey Bunker, owner of Jupiter Original and NEXT, in a statement.
Food and drink options include MidCity SmashedBurger and Straightaway Cocktails. Cocktail bar Hey Love will serve brunch starting at 10 a.m. Shoppers can head to the second floor of Jupiter NEXT to check out the Let’s Be Friends BIPOC Market, which will feature over 30 artists. Nonprofit organization p:ear will also be selling prints and youth art at the event.
Jupiter Original opened in the inner southeast in 2004 and became an instant hipster hangout with its stylishly converted 81-room motel and sleek music venue, Doug Fir Lounge. Doug Fir closed its East Burnside location last year to move into the former Le Bistro Montage space at 301 SE Morrison Street. The move was plagued by permitting issues and the venue will remain quiet until its planned opening date in summer 2025.
In 2018, Jupiter expanded into Jupiter NEXT, bringing the total number of rooms in both properties to 148. In the early days of the COVID pandemic, Jupiter partnered with Multnomah County to provide housing for the homeless.
