Blue Hose flies past Flying Fleet at the season opener

CLINTON, SC – Eight different players scored goals as the Presbyterian Blue Hose rolled over the Erskine Flying Fleet 9-0 in their season opener Saturday night at Martin Stadium.

Carson Griffith, Iragi Kalala, Jourdan Spence, Sandro Rabarivony, Ryan Jeanfreau, Herman Furumo (two goals), Eddie Merck and Daniel Dalehaug scored goals for the Blue Hose.

“I thought we were a little slow to get into the game,” said the Presbyterian coach Nick Finotti. “It took us 10 or 15 minutes to get back to ourselves. I think we had moments tonight where we were really good. We had a lot of positive moments. We got a shutout. We played a lot of guys tonight, a lot of young players played good minutes. After the first 10-15 minutes, I thought we were safe for the rest of the game.”

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Spence created Presbyterian’s first scoring opportunity when he was fouled in the penalty area in the 10th Minute. The Blue Hose were awarded a penalty, which Griffith slotted into the net for Presbyterian’s first goal of the season.
  • Griffith played a through ball to Kalala at the top of the box. Kalala skilfully handled the ball past an Erskine defender and fired the ball into the net in the 13th minute.th Minute.
  • In the 22ndand Minute, Jonas Sundli-Hardig collected the ball near the halfway line. He passed it to Damien McGregor-Wickham who was charging down the right side of the field. McGregor-Wickham crossed the ball across the box to Spence who fired the ball into the post to give the Blue Hose a 3-0 lead.
  • In the 23rdrd In the 10th minute, Kalala pushed the ball forward and passed it to Rabarivony on the left side of the box. Raborivony calmly pushed the ball into the left corner of the goal.
  • In the 58thth In the 13th minute, Jeanfreau ran with the ball towards the right post. He lost the ball to an Erskine defender near the goal line, but was able to come back and hammer a shot into the top left corner of the goal from a difficult angle near the goal line.
  • In the 77thth In the 13th minute, Furumo scored his first goal after an assist from Sonny Simpson.
  • Then Merck lobbed the ball from about 20 meters over the head of Erskine’s goalkeeper, so that it bounced off the crossbar and into the net in the 78th minute.th Minute. Jeremy Siau prepared the goal with a beautiful pass.
  • In the 83rdrd In the 80th minute, Furumo scored his second goal of the game after an assist from Merck.
  • Then, in the 88thth Minute, Daniel Dalehaug finished the scoring with a shot from about 13.7 meters that went into the upper left corner of the goal.

ACQUAINTANCE

  • Presbyterian set Division I school records for nine goals, seven assists and 25 points.
  • The Blue Hose finished the game with a 27-6 advantage in shots and a 16-2 advantage in shots on goal. Kalala was the Blue Hose’s best player with five shots.
  • With this victory, Presbyterian has won three consecutive home opening games and improved its record to 9-8-1 in home opening games since joining Division I.
