Blue Jays All-Star joins list of incredible names in American League history with Hot Stretch

The Toronto Blue Jays beat the Oakland Athletics 3-1 on Friday night at the Rogers Centre. With the win, the Jays are now 54-62 on the year, while the Athletics drop to 48-69 with the loss.

Toronto may be playing out of the game, but superstar first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. certainly isn’t. With another 2-for-4 performance, Guerrero Jr. continued one of the best hit streaks we’ve seen in the American League in the last 95 years.

According to @StatsCentre on social media:

Highest batting average – American League player in a 21-game season since 1938 (minimum 75 at-bats)
.522- Ichiro Suzuki (2004)
.517- George Brett (1980)
.511- Jose Altuve (2017)
.507- Roberto Alomar (1997)
.506- Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (2024)
.506-Ted Williams (1941)

Brett and Williams are in the National Baseball Hall of Fame, and Suzuki and Altuve will likely join them, so that’s great company for Guerrero Jr.

This year, he has a .323 batting average with 23 home runs, 76 RBIs and two stolen bases. The 25-year-old has accomplished all of this during a turbulent time for the organization, in which they traded away several players and Guerrero Jr.’s name also appeared in transfer rumors.

Guerrero Jr. has a batting average of .286, well above his career average this year, and he also has an OPS of .946.

The Blue Jays and A’s are back in action Saturday afternoon, with first pitch at 3:07 p.m. ET. Rookie Yariel Rodriguez will pitch for Toronto, while Osvaldo Bido will take the ball for Oakland. Rodriguez is 1-4 and has a 3.86 ERA.
