Bandai Namco cancels the release of Blue Protocol in the West and announces server shutdown

Blue Protocol was set to launch in Japan in December 2023 and was scheduled to be released worldwide by Amazon Games sometime in 2024. However, Bandai Namco has now confirmed that the Japanese version of Blue Protocol will be discontinued on January 18, 2025 and that development on the Western version of the game has been halted.

“We regret to inform you that the Japanese version of Blue Protocol will be discontinued on Saturday, January 18, 2025,” said a statement from Blue Protocol’s management team.

“For this reason, we have also abandoned our plans to release a western version of the game in collaboration with Amazon Games. We have maintained a close relationship with Amazon Games throughout the development of Blue Protocol and both teams are disappointed that we will not be able to deliver the game to players around the world.

“We know that Blue Protocol has been highly anticipated since the game was first announced. We wanted to provide an experience that felt like immersing yourself in the world of the anime, and we challenged ourselves to create a world where every single player could experience adventures as the main character of the anime. We’ve worked hard to prepare for the release, but have come to the conclusion that it won’t be possible to provide a service that satisfies everyone.”

With the shutdown of servers on January 18, 2025, all 39 Blue Protocol achievements will be retired in the Japanese version. If you plan to complete the free-to-play MMORPG before the shutdown date, you can download Blue Protocol from the Japanese Xbox Store. Unfortunately, we don’t have enough data to give you an estimate of completion.

In other server closure news, Nexon recently announced that it will shut down KartRider: Drift next year, and servers for four Xbox games are scheduled to shut down in September.
