Board elections for the Dixie Electric Power Association opened

LAUREL, Mississippi (WDAM) – The Dixie Electric Power Association’s annual board elections began online Monday.

Since the association is a non-profit electricity cooperative, each member must vote for his or her representative on the board.

“All of our members have multiple ways to participate in our election,” said Aaron Zumwalt, administration finance manager. “Anyone who has online access can vote using the ‘Vote Now’ button in the app or on the website. All of our members who do not have online access can expect an email from us in the first week of September.”

This year, districts 3, 4 and 6 are up for election.

For every vote cast, Dixie Electric will donate $1 to be split between the Christian Food Mission of Laurel, Samaritan’s Closet and Pantry in Waynesboro and the Petal Children’s Task Force.

Voters will also be entered into several prize draws, including a credit of up to $700 on their electricity bill.

“We are a nonprofit, member-owned cooperative, so every member has a vote in electing their representative on our board,” said Amanda Mills, communications manager for Dixie Electric and DE Fastlink. “That’s one of the nice things about being a member, rather than a customer, of your local electric cooperative.”

The last day to vote in the annual board elections is October 14.
