Brand new Gulfstream G400 completes maiden flight

With the start of the flight test program in Savannah, the aircraft sets new standards

RESTON, Virginia., 15 August 2024 /PRNewswire/ — Gulfstream Aerospace Corp. today announced that the all-new Gulfstream G400 has successfully completed its first flight, officially launching the flight test program and expanding Gulfstream’s ultra-modern, high-technology family of next-generation aircraft. The G400 sets a new standard with the highest performance and comfort ever achieved in this segment.

The G400 took off from Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport at 9:04 am and returned 2 hours and 54 minutes later at a speed of Mach 0.85 and an altitude of 41,000 feet/12,497 meters. The aircraft completed this mission using a blend of sustainable aviation fuel from the Gulfstream campus in Savannah.

The G400 delivers best-in-class performance and efficiency by combining Gulfstream’s aerodynamic clean-wing design, advanced Pratt & Whitney Canada PW812GA engines and next-generation avionics. The aircraft can travel 4,200 nautical miles (7,778 kilometers) at Mach 0.85 and is equipped with Gulfstream’s award-winning Symmetry Flight Deck and Predictive Landing Performance System to improve flight safety and pilot situational awareness. The G400 also features Gulfstream’s advanced high-speed wings and winglets, introduced on the Gulfstream G500 and G600, which significantly increase efficiency.

The G400 offers customers a choice of three floor plans with up to nine, eleven or twelve seats. The aircraft also offers the signature Gulfstream cabin experience with 100% fresh, never-recirculated air purified by a plasma ionization clean air system, the lowest cabin altitude in its class and light from ten Gulfstream panoramic oval windows.

“The completion of the first flight represents a significant milestone for the G400,” said Mark BurnsPresident of Gulfstream. “It once again demonstrates the maturity of Gulfstream’s new aircraft programs and the benefits of deliberately designed commonalities across our next-generation fleet.”

Customers can experience the G400 interior at the Gulfstream showroom in Savannah, which includes a full-size G400 model, immersive multimedia content and an interior design exhibit, or at the Sales and Design Center in Beverly Hills, which also features a G400 cabin model. These invitation-only opportunities allow customers to experience the G400’s safety and wellness-enhancing features firsthand while gaining insight into the Gulfstream design process.
