Bulgari Hotel in Rome named best hotel in the world

Rome is experiencing a boom in luxury hotels.

The Bulgari Hotel Roma has been named the best hotel in the world in its 2024 ranking by Virtuoso Travel, a leading global network of agencies specializing in luxury travel.

Italian Tourism Minister Daniela Santanchè welcomed the recognition, writing on X: “Italy is always a champion in its class. Now even the best hotel in the world is Italian. It is in Rome, and it couldn’t be otherwise.”

The five-star hotel opposite the ancient Mausoleum of Augustus in the heart of the historic center was opened just over a year ago by luxury jeweler Bulgari.

“We are proud that Bulgari Roma has been named Best Hotel of 2024 by Virtuoso Travel,” said Rome’s Tourism Councilor Alessandro Onorato, who praised the “valuable and successful” partnership between the city and Bulgari.

Onorato said the award for the 114-room hotel was also an “outstanding recognition” for the capital, which is currently experiencing “a revolution in the luxury sector”.

Rome was the European city with the strongest tourism growth in 2023, Onorato said, with an increase of over 45 percent compared to the previous year, and the figures for 2024 are expected to be “even better.”

Bulgari has sponsored several major restoration projects in Rome in recent years, from the Spanish Steps to the archaeological site at Largo Argentina, and recently hosted a fashion show at the Baths of Diocletian.

Last December, Rome was ranked after London as the city with the second highest appeal for the world’s top luxury hotel brands in 2023, according to Luxury Travel Intelligence (LTI).

The Italian capital performed particularly well in the LTI list of the best luxury hotels in the world: Bulgari Roma takes first place and the Six Senses on the central Via del Corso takes seventh place.
