Cal Fire: Crozier fire 91% contained, evacuation order completely lifted

Containment of the Crozier Fire was 91% as of Thursday afternoon and remained at that level through Friday morning, according to Cal Fire. The fire has been raging for 10 days northeast of Placerville in El Dorado County.

The fire, which has ravaged about 770 acres, was “smoldering in rugged terrain” within the fire perimeter, according to a Cal Fire update Friday. Firefighters were working to reduce hazards from trees on roads and increase the fire perimeter.

According to Cal Fire, the evacuation order for the Crozier Fire was lifted Thursday afternoon.

Authorities advised the public to use caution when traveling on Rock Creed Road in the Mosquito and Swansboro areas. Parts of the El Dorado National Forest remain closed, the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office said.

All evacuation warnings related to the Crozier Fire were lifted on Wednesday, but an evacuation order for the entire fire area remained in place at that time while firefighters worked to contain the fire.

The Crozier Fire started on August 6 northwest of Slate Mountain. It spread to about 244 acres in the first few hours and had tripled in size by the next morning. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, according to Cal Fire.
