Caleb Williams impresses in preseason win against the Bills

Jones said he was more than ready to switch from receiver to running back, a move that took place at the beginning of the week’s practice.

“God blessed me with speed, size and physicality, so why not?” Jones said. “Anything that helps this team and adds value.”

The Bills narrowed the gap to 13-6 on Bass’ 49-yard field goal late in the third after defensive end Daniel Hardy sacked quarterback Shane Buechele for a 6-yard loss.

Early in the fourth quarter, Micah Baskerville made the play of the day for the Bears defense. The first-year linebacker lined up in front of running back Frank Gore Jr., intercepted a pass from Buechele and returned it 53 yards for a touchdown. Santos missed the extra point, but the Bears led 19-6.

“I saw the quarterback going through his routines,” Baskerville said. “I just went forward and took my opponent and he threw it to him.”

When asked what he was thinking when he returned, Baskerville said, “Not getting caught by the quarterback? That’s all.”

Booker recorded two more sacks on Buechele on consecutive plays in the fourth quarter, bringing his total on the day to 2.5.

“It was a great feeling, a boost of energy and I can’t wait to do it again,” Booker said. “I just have to watch the film to see how I can improve. There are always things I could have done better. I probably could have gotten two more sacks.”

Hardy also recorded 2.5 sacks for a Bears defense that recorded eight sacks and did not allow a touchdown in the game.

Rookie running back Ian Wheeler followed with touchdown runs of 7 and 8 yards on consecutive possessions with 6:03 and 2:24 remaining, extending the lead to 33-6.

“I’ve been working toward this for a while,” Wheeler said. “Unfortunately, I couldn’t play in the last game, so my teammates helped me get into the end zone twice, and I’m happy about that.”
