California Fall Color, the popular foliage tracking website, has a new look – NBC Los Angeles

What you should know

  • Traces of fall foliage in California, where the leaves change color in the Golden State
  • From August to January, users report sightings and share photos
  • The peaks of the Sierra enjoy colorful leaves before the end of summer, while the deserts generally change around the holidays.

Leaf fans, rejoice: Since its launch in 2009, California Fall Color has been the trusted site for Golden State road trippers looking to see the leaves. With users sharing recent sightings of specific locations as well as eye-catching photos, it’s easy for fall-loving adventurers to pinpoint exactly where they want to go and when. Of course, urgent cries like “Go now!” can also prompt fall fans to hit the road without delay. But like the changing leaves, California Fall Color has also undergone a change: This time, the site has been updated to provide users with “improved navigation” as well as other helpful features.

A COLORFUL NEW LOGO… is an attractive addition to the site, which is overseen by editor and outdoor journalist Lara Kaylor. Ms. Kaylor took over the oversight of the popular blog, which boasts the catchy tagline “Autumn Happens Here, Too,” when founder John Poimiroo retired in 2023. In 2024, fans of California Fall Color can look forward to many fantastic photos and tips submitted by users, as well as the fall color map, which shows leaves in different hues to indicate the different stages of foliage in the state. “CFC has been providing its audience with amazing information for 15 years,” Kaylor said. “We hope the new look will not only help with navigation, but also highlight and highlight the beautiful photos the site is known for.”

HAPPY 15TH, FALL COLORS IN CALIFORNIA: Check it out now, or later in August when the first exciting reports from leaf peepers in the Eastern Sierra start pouring in.
