Can you become Chess.com’s first Bughouse Champion?

Are you ready for piece placement chaos? Chess.com is pleased to announce the next Chess.com Community Championships event, the Chess.com Bughouse Championship 2024! Starting on 19 Augusteveryone can fight for a piece of this month’s prize increased prize money of 7,500 USD.

Bughouse is one of the most popular chess variants in the world. From children to super grandmasters, everyone loves the fast-paced madness. In fact, it’s not uncommon for players to squeeze in a few games of this variant between rounds in tournaments.

Now is your chance to become a Chess.com Bughouse Champion! Take part in one of the eight qualifying tournaments to make it to the main event – ​​and to experience exciting games against title holders! Please note: only teams can qualify for the final (More information can be found here.) Click the button below to view the full qualifying schedule.

Each qualifier is a two-hour arena with a 3+0 time control. You can team up with a friend or we’ll let you match up with different players in the arena! The qualifiers run from August 19th to 22nd and the winners of each arena will advance to the finals.

Format of the qualifying rounds for the Chess.com Bughouse Championship 2024

As always, we may require participants to participate in a video call to conduct fair play checks to ensure everyone has a safe and clean gaming environment. Players participating in the fair play call will be required to set up two cameras from different angles in the room. Failure to do so will result in the player being disqualified from the event.

The eight winning teams from the qualifying rounds will then face off in a double knockout system, but this time with a twist! Matches will be played in a countdown format and teams will need a two-point lead to win the game, so be prepared for some sacrificial attacks and quick checkmates with piece placement!

Final format of the Chess.com Bughouse Championship 2024

This is the fourth event of the Chess.com Community Championships series. In early August, GM Luca Moroni Jr. defeated IM Nhat Ming To to become Chess.com Spell Chess Champion.

IMPORTANT NOTE

Please note that the qualifiers are open to all players, but only players who team up with the same partner throughout the Arena can qualify for the Finals. Individuals without a set play partner can join the Bughouse Arenas and will be randomly assigned new partners during the event, but will not be able to qualify for the Finals. To team up with a single teammate and qualify for the qualifiers, follow the instructions in this article after joining the Arena.
