Central government issues order to increase security in all government hospitals by 25%, deployment of marshals planned – India TV

Amid massive protests against the Kolkata rape and murder case, the Central government on Monday issued an order to increase security measures by 25% in all Central government hospitals. While issuing the order, the Central government said that more security officials will also be deployed in the hospitals as and when required. A committee will be set up under the chairmanship of the DGHS to receive suggestions on the problems faced by the doctors.

Union Health Minister Apoorva Chandra issued the order and said basic problems faced by doctors like toilets and CCTV would be addressed. He also directed that in case of violence, an FIR would be registered within six hours.

He said that 26 states already have laws to protect health workers and that security personnel in government hospitals will be increased by 25 percent as per the requirement. He said that the number of security officials will be increased and an order to this effect has been issued.

The Centre said in the order that a duty room would be set up to address the problems of the doctors and CCTV would be installed in the hospital for the safety of the doctors. If an incident is reported, an FIR will be filed within 6 hours. Earlier, the victim had to file an FIR.
