Chicago Cubs Minor League Summary: August 9

The Cubs released right-handed pitchers Starlyn Pichardo And Diego Dugarte.

IowaCubs

The Iowa Cubs calmed the Omaha Storm Chasers (Royals) with a score of 6:3.

Connor Noland started and got the win after allowing just one run on six hits in five innings. Noland struck out three times and walked once.

Keegan Thompson pitched the ninth inning and made the save. He allowed no runs, but two hits. Thompson managed two strikeouts and no walks.

Catcher Moises Ballesteros hit a two-run home run in the third inning. It was his 16th home run and seventh homer with Iowa. Ballesteros was 2 for 4 with a walk and three total RBIs. He scored twice.

Midfielder Kevin Alcantara went 3 of 5 with a stolen base.

DH Darius Hill was 2 for 5 and scored one goal.

Tennessee Smokies

The Tennessee Smokies blinded the Chattanooga Lookouts (Reds) 2-0.

starter Antonio Sanchez played seven innings and allowed only two hits. He struck out seven times and walked only once.

Ben Leeper In the eighth inning, the team retired in order. He struck out one.

Blake Weiman Three in the ninth and got the save. He allowed a two-out single, but nothing else. Weiman struck out twice.

DH Haydn McGeary left fielder brought home single Christian Franklin in the first inning. McGeary was 1 for 3 with a walk and Franklin was 1 for 4.

Midfielder Brett Bateman was 2 for 4 with a double.

South Bend Cubs

The South Bend Cubs were defeated by the Ft. Wayne TinCaps (Padres) 4-3.

Nick Dean started and lost after allowing two runs on three hits in four innings. Dean had three strikeouts and no walks.

Midfielder Parker Chavers was 2 for 4.

Myrtle Beach Pelicans

The Myrtle Beach Pelicans split a doubleheader with the Down East Wood Ducks (Astros), winning the first game 3-2 and losing the second 7-1.

Nazier Mule started the first game and pitched four scoreless innings, allowing just one hit. Mulé had two strikeouts, allowed two walks and struck out two batters.

Luis Rujano allowed both runs by Wood Duck in the bottom of the sixth inning, but got the win because Mulé didn’t last five innings. Rujano’s final total was two runs on two hits and one walk over 1.1 innings. He managed one strikeout.

Vince Reilly had to come in and finish the sixth inning and then threw the seventh for the save. Reilly threw 1.2 innings and allowed a two-out single in the seventh inning, which was the only baserunner he allowed. Reilly didn’t strike anyone out.

The Pelicans had only two hits in the first game. Third Baseman Daniela Schmidt In his first professional game, he hit a double and scored in the sixth inning, going 1 for 4 with three strikeouts.

Right fielder Leonel Espinoza was 1 for 3 with a walk. Espinoza had an RBI single in the sixth inning and scored a run in the third.

Juan Bello did not make it past the first inning. He suffered the loss after allowing two runs on two hits and two walks in two-thirds of an inning. Bello managed two strikeouts.

The Birds had just three hits in the second game. Espinoza went 1 for 4 in the second game. He scored the Pelicans’ only run in the second game.
