(Black PR Wire) Washington, DC — Climate Power announces the launch of its Black Engagement Program, dedicated to fostering conversations about the disproportionate impacts of climate change on Black communities across the country. A key part of the campaign will be educating Black voters about the stark contrast between Vice President Kamala Harris’ historic climate record holding the oil industry accountable and Trump’s dangerous, polluting oil industry agenda.

Over the past four years, Climate Power has worked to advance the climate narrative, protect climate progress, and build political will for more climate action. This work has meant reaching out to key groups most impacted by the climate crisis, like Black and Latino voters. Through timely research, polling, earned and paid media campaigns, Climate Power has paved the way to make the connection between climate change and its impacts on communities of color.

With an investment of over $10 million, Climate Power’s Black Engagement Program is executing a culturally competent and impactful political communications campaign across earned and paid media aimed at ensuring that climate change and clean energy issues become central to mobilizing Black voters in the upcoming 2024 elections.

“Climate change goes beyond the environment and touches nearly every part of Black American lives,” said Markeya Thomas, senior advisor for Black Engagement at Climate Power. “Black communities have long been at the receiving end of environmental degradation and climate impacts, and we know that Vice President Kamala Harris has a history of driving progress on climate action, from establishing environmental justice task forces to fighting the oil industry for polluting our communities and her decisive vote for the Biden-Harris administration’s clean energy plan.

“We want to make things right. Only by taking action can we protect the climate progress that is cleaning our air and water and fighting the climate crisis. Another four years of Trump would be a disaster for our climate, especially for communities like ours.”

According to recent data, 62% of Black voters in swing states consider climate change and clean energy to be important factors in electing the next president. Climate Power recognizes the urgency of these issues and is committed to amplifying the voices of Black communities and ensuring their priorities are at the forefront of the national discourse.

In addition to the Black Engagement Program, in 2023 Climate Power launched Climate Power En Acción, an expansion of its political communications efforts tailored specifically to Latinos. These initiatives reflect Climate Power’s relentless commitment to building public support for strong climate policies and holding climate change deniers and their allies in the oil and gas lobby accountable.
