Color Wow Dream Coat Supernatural Spray Review

When temperatures rise or rain arrives, humidity often follows—not the best news for our hair. But there’s one product that Amazon shoppers and celebrities like Jennifer Lopez are using to prevent frizz and create a shimmering shine: Color Wow’s Dream Coat Supernatural Spray. Beauty lovers just can’t stop buying it—according to the brand’s Instagram, someone buys a bottle every five seconds.

Dream Coat combats frizz-causing behavior by coating each strand of hair with an invisible, waterproof layer.

Celebrity hairstylist and Color Wow creative director Chris Appleton uses the hero product to create a sleek look he calls “glass hair” on clients like Kim Kardashian and Jennifer Lopez. He even used it to create J.Lo’s stunning 2020 Super Bowl style. But anyone can spray it on at home to get silky, frizz-free hair that lasts three to four washes.

“It’s an amazing anti-humidity spray that’s the key to my glass hair look, which really wasn’t possible before this new technology,” Appleton tells Yahoo Life. “It literally transforms the texture and gives the hair the most incredible shine.”

“The key to fighting frizz is to control moisture levels and make the cuticle as firm and smooth as possible,” Joe Cincotta, chemist at Color Wow, tells Yahoo Life. “Unlike typical serum or oil-based humidity-fighting formulas that lay a thick layer on the hair’s surface – which reduces volume and makes hair greasy – Dream Coat uses a breakthrough, heat-activated polymer technology that is lighter than a feather.”

According to the instructions, you should use Dream Coat after washing your hair, when it’s just damp, but not wet. Appleton recommends sectioning towel-dried hair and spraying generously before drying. “Blow-dry each section with tension using your brush,” he adds. The heat-activated polymer protects strands while providing a silky-soft texture that won’t weigh hair down.

More than 54,000 Amazon shoppers have rated Dream Coat five stars and over 60,000 bottles were sold in the last month alone.

One reviewer raved that Dream Coat was “a miracle in a bottle,” and continued, “I live in South Florida where humidity is a constant problem… After using it just once, I’m already hooked.”

Another shopper agreed: “This is a miracle product that I can’t live without now! I put it in my wet hair and then blow dry it. My hair is so smooth, frizz free and helps with humidity! I’ve never found anything that helps my thick hair and this is finally it!”

A third fan shared tips on how to use the product after not being immediately wowed: “I bought this in February and tried it a few times with pretty disappointing results… A few weeks ago I tried it again because my hair was just a frizzy, dry mess… I sectioned my towel-dried hair, which was still pretty wet. I sprayed each section generously, more than I ever thought I would need, and combed through each section before moving on to the next. I let it air dry for a bit before blow-drying it with my giant airbrush, again in sections and under tension and high heat. I was literally blown away by the results! My hair was soft, felt like silk, was super smooth, and insanely shiny!”

However, some buyers did not like the fact that this product only works with heat.

One customer wrote, “My hair is naturally very shiny, bouncy and healthy because I almost never heat treat it or use harsh products. … I won’t use it again, but it might help someone who isn’t normally as careful with their hair.”

“It’s only heat activated, it’s not a shine spray that you can just spray on damp or dry hair and leave it on,” another shared. “You have to have a blow dryer, which I don’t. I never use heat on my long hair.”
