Civilization 6: 9 tips to win at Deity

Players who want to win a Civ 6 game on Deity difficulty should follow these tips.

Civilization 6 has seen a lot of support from developers especially in its lifetime, from new leaders and Civ packs to the creation of whole new game modes and content to play with them. While this adds a lot of new content, it also makes the game more difficult to learn. One such update is the secret society system, Here, players and their civilizations can join one of four Secret Societies in the game to gain permanent, game-wide bonuses. Getting started can be a bit tricky, though, as each Secret Society has its own method of joining, and each offers different benefits.

Choose the right game mode to access secret societies

Select Secret Societies mode in the startup options

Secret societies simply do not appear in games without the Secret Society Mode selected, even if the player has the correct game content. First, make sure that the Ethiopia Package is owned as this is the package that brings Secret Societies into the game. Secret Societies can also be combined with other game modes to create even more excitement when playing.

This game mode can be selected from the game creation menu.

Find a Natural Wonder in Civilization 6

Discover natural wonders

The Hermetic Order has Requirements that its members must fulfill before they can win an invitation, just like other secret societies. In the case of the Hermetic Order, they want the player to have found at least one Natural wonders before extending an invitation.

Popup to discover hermetic orders

It’s really easy to get an invite in Ancient Times if you take a little time to explore beforehand. But a word of warning: the more “popular” a secret society is, the lower the chance of getting an invite. This means that the Hermetic Order may never extend an invite if other human or AI players find more natural wonders and do so faster. it is best to do it firstif there is a 100 percent chance of receiving an invitation.

Unlike other governors in
Civilization 6,
Governors of secret societies cannot be assigned to a specific city, but grant bonuses to the entire civilization.

Understanding Ley Lines in Civilization 6

Leyline resource outlined

Ley Lines are a special resource/tile type that only members of the Hermetic Order can see and useThey are visually clearly recognizable and can appear anywhere on the map in grassland, plain, desert, tundra and hill tiles of this type. They offer neighborhood bonuses but cannot be built on.

Unlock the Adept in Civ 6

Promote the Hermetic Governor to Adept

Unlike normal governors, the Hermetic Order Governor can only be promoted after certain eras have been reached in the game. To promote the Hermetic Order Governor to the Adept level, players must reach the Middle Ages. The promotion itself is simple: click the “Promote” button on the Governor screen, as you would with any other governor.

After promotion, the Hermetic Order grants access to a unique replacement building for the university: the building of the Alchemical Society.

What is the Alchemical Society building?

Hermetic Order Alchemical Society Unique Building

  • +4 Science
  • +2 Production
  • +1 accommodation
  • +1 Citizens Square
  • +1 Great Engineer Point per round
  • +1 Great Merchant Point per round
  • +1 Great Scientist Point per round
  • Grants gold equal to the district’s neighborhood bonus.

The Alchemical Society building is a direct upgrade to the regular University building. The Alchemical Society is probably the greatest reward of the Hermetic Order, as it is the easiest to use and the most reliable. The Great personality points are particularly interesting, while gold and production are also nice.

Vietnam is one of the most unique factions in Civilization 6, but its peculiarities can be challenging for new players. Here are a few tips.

Unlock Magus Rewards in Civ 6

Promote the Hermetic Governor to Magus

Like its predecessor (the Adept), the Magus requires players to reach a certain era during the game to unlock the promotion and its bonuses. In this case, it is the Industrial age. The Magus level massively rewards players with a focus on generating great personalities.

Every deserving great personality will Increase Ley Line bonuses by +1 of their specific type (e.g. +1 Production for each Great Engineer). Great Admirals and Generals also count, and each boost Ley Lines by +1 Science. These bonuses are huge, especially when deliberately generating Great People and strategically placing cities near Ley Lines.

Unlock the Aiwass in Civilization 6.

Hermetic Governor for Aiwass

The Aiwass rank is the last level in the secret society of the Hermetic Order and can only be achieved after reaching the atomic age. This rewards players with a special project, Occult researchwhich generates gold each turn during its activity and, upon completion, generates Great Personality Points and Science for each Ley Line in the city.

The special project “Occult Research”

Special project “Occult Research”

  • Gold at every turn
  • +500 science per ley line in the city
  • +Great scientist, merchant, engineer points upon completion

The Occult Research special project is listed in the town production screen along with all other special projects. This is a good special project that can be used to increase gold production, but its biggest advantage is the massive amount of science it produces upon completion – 500 science per ley line in the town, regardless of game speed.

The Domination victory in Civ 6 is the easiest to understand, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t challenging – these tips will help players win the war.

Making the most of the hermetic order in Civilization 6

Ley Line

The Hermetic Order is not the easiest – or, strictly speaking, the best – of the secret societies in Civilization 6. Its Ley Line resource appears randomly on Grassland, Plains, Desert, and Tundra tiles (along with Hill tiles of that type) and prevents anything else from being built on them. Since some of the rewards increase with the number of Ley Lines in a given city, this is could prevent the construction of important infrastructure if not planned — although this shouldn’t be too much of a problem, since Ley Lines don’t appear in large numbers anyway.

But with a particularly dedicated player, the Hermetic Order Grant massive neighborhood bonuses thanks to the interaction with Great Person generation. Each Great Person earned provides +1 adjacency bonus of their type to Ley Lines, so these bonuses can stack up pretty quickly in the right hands.

This means that the Hermetic Order is a good choice for certain civilizations like Scotland, Brazil or Sweden, which get unique buildings that offer Great Person points. The Alchemical Society building is also a huge improvement over the basic University, so it fits well with science-focused gameplay.

The special project, Occult research, is more of a “nice to have” than something that has to run all the time. But — and this is a pretty big bonus — it produces 500 science per ley line in the city when completed, regardless of the game speed. So it doesn’t necessarily have to run constantly at the expense of other productions, but it can be used very successfully to advance research.

The gold is also beautiful.
