SANTA MONICA, CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES, August 23, 2024 /EINPresswire.com/ — Green Globe recently re-certified the Conservatorium Hotel Amsterdam, awarding the hotel a high compliance rating of 90%. Located on Museum Square, the luxury hub and cultural heart of the capital, the Conservatorium is an architectural masterpiece that combines a heritage building with a graceful, contemporary design.

Jantineke Eijkelenkamp, Sustainability Manager at The Set, said: “We are constantly striving to make improvements and make the Conservatorium Hotel more sustainable. And thanks to great partners like Green Globe, Klappir and Frankenhuis, as well as the great enthusiasm of our Green Team, we feel that we have taken some big steps forward again this year.”

Conservatorium Hotel Amsterdam was awarded Platinum status in 2022, marking ten years of consecutive certification. There is a wide range of sustainability measures in place that are well implemented and supported by the hotel’s Green Team and staff. New technologies and sustainable suppliers have been introduced and staff are eagerly involved in community initiatives and environmental concerns.

Recycling of clothing and laundry
The hotel works with Frankenhuis to recycle old uniforms and discarded linen. Frankenhuis, a circular textile solutions provider, processes used and post-production textiles into new and usable raw materials. This means that worn-out clothing and textile materials are no longer wasted. Instead, the recycled fibers become a valuable resource for new applications in various industries such as the automotive, furniture and spinning industries.

Reducing the carbon footprint
Calculating the Conservatorium Hotel Amsterdam’s exact carbon footprint is a massive undertaking, but together with its carbon management partner Klappir, the hotel has managed to successfully do just that. The Klappir Sustainability Platform collects and processes environmental, social and governance (ESG) data across a company’s entire value chain to enable transparent sustainability accounting and reporting. The data collected provides accurate figures on the hotel’s carbon footprint, allowing management and staff to better understand how well they are doing in their sustainability practices, where to focus improvement efforts, and provides the property’s benchmark against other companies. Klappir also tracks the impact of new green initiatives by reporting the carbon emissions generated and enabling the creation of future plans. All of these results are critical to further map the hotel’s path to net zero.

Helping the community and the planet
The Green Team and staff are committed to helping the local community. Volunteer days are regularly organised for staff and initiatives include picking up plastic waste in the Amsterdam canals with the Plastic Whale Foundation and helping seniors write postcards as part of the Great Christmas Card campaign for the National Elderly Foundation in the Netherlands. Hotel staff also support the De Noordzee Foundation by participating in nationwide beach clean-ups. Every year, Foundation De Noordzee organises a two-week clean-up of all beaches along the entire Dutch coast, with over 1500 volunteers participating.
