Convicted murderer wanted for kidnapping arrested in Boone County

The Boone County Sheriff’s Office said Corey Lee Handy is accused of kidnapping a woman against her will with a firearm in Colorado.

BOONE COUNTY, ARKANSAS, Arkansas – A convicted murderer wanted in connection with an alleged kidnapping in Colorado has been arrested in Arkansas.

According to a press release from the Boone County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO), investigators were contacted by police in Branson, Missouri, to assist in the arrest of a fugitive.

Corey Lee Handy was wanted in Colorado for allegedly holding a woman against her will with a firearm, and Branson police were working to arrest him, according to BCSO.

Handy had an outstanding warrant for kidnapping of an adult and another warrant from the Colorado Department of Corrections for violating probation. The fugitive was on parole following a 2012 conviction for first-degree murder.

On August 21, Branson Police found Handy’s vehicle in Harrison, Arkansas.

BCSO responded and set up surveillance nearby, the news release said. Before a search warrant could be issued, Handy fled in his vehicle.

Handy was stopped and taken into custody without incident, according to BCSO. He is now awaiting extradition to Colorado.

BCSO said Branson and Harrison police departments assisted with the investigation and arrest.
