Courtesy call by the Egyptian Foreign Minister (Summary) (Diplomatic Relations)

On August 23, Mr. KISHIDA Fumio, Prime Minister of Japan, received a courtesy call for about 20 minutes starting at 9:40 a.m. from Dr. Badr ABDELATTY, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Expatriates of the Arab Republic of Egypt, who is visiting Japan to attend the Ministerial Meeting of the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD). The overview is as follows:

  1. At the outset, Prime Minister Kishida congratulated Minister Abdelatty on his appointment to the Cabinet and welcomed his visit to Japan immediately after taking office.

  2. Prime Minister Kishida stated that Egypt plays an important role in peace and stability in the Middle East and Africa and that the country is an extremely important partner for Japan.

  3. In response, Minister Abdelatty handed over the letter from President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi to Prime Minister Kishida and expressed his hope for further development of bilateral relations. Both sides agreed to further promote cooperation with African countries in coordination with each other, in addition to bilateral cooperation.

  4. Prime Minister Kishida stated that Japan is following the current situation in the Middle East with great interest and concern and that Japan supports Egypt’s efforts regarding the situation around Gaza. Both sides agreed to continue close cooperation.
