Cowboys 12-13 Rams, recap: score, stats, highlights | NFL Preseason Week 1

Rams beat Cowboys in season opener

To be honest, the game was pretty boring for the most part. But it is the preseason and we got what we came for for the most part, which was a look at how the backups, rookies and veterans fighting for a spot on the roster would play in the game.

The game was mostly a Exchange of field goals between Rams kicker Joshua Karty and Cowboys kicker Brandon Aubrey. In the first half, both kickers made two field goals – Karty for 28 and 39 yards and Aubrey for 30 and 36 yards. In the second half, Aubrey missed a 65-yard attempt, but managed a 38-yard and then a 52-yard attempt in the next quarter to give the Cowboys a 12-6 lead.

It was only in the last 11 seconds that the Rams took the lead for the first time since their first field goal in the first quarter. Quarterback Stetson Bennett threw a 6-yard pass to tight end Miller Forristall in the end zone for the touchdown and Karty’s extra point was good and secured the Rams’ 13-12 victory over the Cowboys in their season opener.

Bennett’s Interceptions

If that’s all you know, then Bennett may have seemed like a star to you. He threw five interceptions in the game – four of them counted and one was taken back because of a penalty by the CowboysHe finished the game 24 of 38 for 224 yards, one touchdown and four interceptions.

This was Bennett’s first game since the 2023 preseason, but in those games he also threw three interceptions in the three games. The game-winning touchdown counts for something, of course, but he has to get the ball losses under control if he wants to be a real backup to Matthew Stafford.

Rams rookies from the sixth round show

Wide receiver Jordan Whittingtonthe Rams’ sixth-round draft pick, made a convincing case that he deserves to be there. He made several big plays and finished the game with six pass catches from nine targets for 74 yards.

The Rams’ other sixth-round pick was defensive tackle Michael B.who also played well and finished with a total of six tackles (tied for first on the team), two solos, one tackle with a loss of yardage and a quarterback hit.

New Cowboys defense

There was a lot of talk about it Mike Zimmer’s new defense during the offseason, and it seems like he will continue where Dan Quinn left off in forcing turnovers. This four Intercept Bennett’s throws were all part of that, Eric Scott, Julius Wood, Markquese Bell and Brock Mogenson. However, aside from a sack of Bennett in the fourth quarter by linebacker Jason Johnson, there wasn’t much pressure on the Rams quarterback.

DT Mazi Smith played three series and finished with three tackles, one for loss. Bell, who played linebacker last season, was a safety and finished the season with nine tackles and one interception. LB Demarvion outshines finished the game with three tackles and CB Caelen Carson, the Cowboys’ fifth-round pick, finished the game with six tackles and not a single pass breakup.

Trey Lance

Cooper Rush entered the game as quarterback for the Cowboys and led the offense on a 58-yard touchdown drive on their first possession. He finished the game completing 2 of 3 passes for 44 yards. Then Trey Lance took over. He had several passes thrown too far, including two missed touchdown passesone for Jalen Cropper and another for Cam Johnson. He held his own under pressure several times, but was sacked three times.

Tyler Guyton

Since left tackle Guyton was the Cowboys’ first pick in this year’s draft, all eyes were on him. However, he has been battling an illness over the last week, so his appearances in today’s game were limited. He was not in the starting lineup, but Play two series and allow Lance to run 19 yards He had the third and tenth.
