EL DORADO COUNTY – Evacuation orders for El Dorado County were expanded Wednesday evening as the Crozier Fire nearly doubled in size in just a few hours.

The fire broke out shortly after 1:20 a.m. northwest of Slate Mountain in the Eldorado National Forest.

Cal Fire reports the fire has grown to 571 acres as of Wednesday evening and is 5% contained.

The fire is burning in a remote area with dense forest and undergrowth. Crews have reported that high temperatures, wind and low humidity have led to increased fire activity.

The exact cause of the fire is currently being investigated, Cal Fire said.
