A very large Obi-Wan Kenobi takes the elevated place on the floor next to Padmè Amidala this weekend.
Tyler Bergantino and Gabby Gonzalez immediately had two things in common when they met. At 6’1″ and 6’1″ respectively, they are both known as tall influencers whose online content revolves around their height. And they both loved star Wars so much so that each of them had named their pet Leia.
Their mutual adoration of a galaxy far, far away came up naturally on their first date a few months ago, and this weekend they attended D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event in full cosplay fashion.
Bergantino was clad in Jedi garb and carried the lightsaber hilt of Qui-Gon Jinn, Obi-Wan Kenobi’s former master. And Gonzalez wore a Padmé Amidala jumpsuit and was ready to fight her way out of the Geonosis arena.
Gonzalez was not always so brave, she admits. As a child, her family loved playing LEGO star Wars and watch the movies, but she was afraid of Darth Vader. That was understandable. Even a plush version of the Sith Lord scared her, she said, and that’s a testament to how intensely she watched the movies.”star Wars was always very real to me,” she said.
Bergantino once fought the same Sith who scared his girlfriend during a star Wars Weekend at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. “I actually got to fight Darth Vader with this exact lightsaber,” he said. Master Jinn would be proud.
The pair met when Bergantino was interviewing strangers on the street, and they hit it off instantly. When their followers urged them to take their high-altitude chemistry on a date, they obliged and immediately started chatting about all the other things they had in common. Both Bergantino and Gonzalez were raised by mothers who were fans of the franchise. Now Star Wars has become a part of their true love story. When Swagmin and the star Wars “People on the social channel started following them,” Gonzalez cried.
