Danny Jansen makes MLB history by playing for both teams in the same game as the Red Sox and Blue Jays continue their careers

Danny Jansen will become the first player in MLB history to play for both teams in the same game when the Boston Red Sox and Toronto Blue Jays resume a June 26 game on Monday afternoon.

In June, Jansen played for the Blue Jays. When the rain stoppage was called, Jansen was at bat with one out and one on base in the second inning. After a nearly two-hour delay, the Red Sox and Blue Jays announced that play would resume in a doubleheader on August 26.

According to the match report of the last two months, Jansen was still at bat.

When play resumed after the trade deadline, Jansen was traded for the first time in his career – to the team the Blue Jays played that night on June 26.

The Red Sox released their revised lineup before play resumed. Jansen is scheduled to bat seventh and Triston Casas eighth, where former Red Sox catcher Reese McGuire had batted in the original lineup.

According to the Blue Jays’ lineup, they had to replace five players from the original roster who will no longer be in the game, including traded players and shortstop Bo Bichette, who is on the injured list – Brian Serven will bat for Bichette and play catcher, Addison Barger will bat for Justin Turner and DHs, Daulton Varsho will bat for Danny Jansen and play CF, Will Wagner will bat for Isiah Kiner-Falefa and play second baseman, and Leo Jiménez will bat for Kevin Kiermaier and play shortstop.

Jansen was drafted by Toronto in 2013 and made his major league debut in 2018. He played the first 6 1/2 years of his career there before being traded to Boston. In return, Toronto received infielders Cutter Coffey and Eddinson Paulino and right-handed pitcher Gilberto Batista.

Since his signing, Jansen has played 14 games for the Red Sox, posting a batting average of .231/.333/.385 and hitting two home runs.

The Red Sox are currently third in the American League East with a record of 67-62. The Blue Jays are at the bottom of the division with a record of 63-68.
