Day 1: Morning Summary / IJF.org

When you saw Aleksei Toptygin (IJF) perform a perfect Tai-Otoshi in the first round of his match, you could understand that he was ready to throw and use high-class technical judo to win a medal at the pinnacle of the cadet year. As an unseeded competitor, he could have been ruled out, but he threw the number one seed in the second round to make it to the last eight of the -50 kg category.

Aleksei Toptygin (IJF) won his quarterfinal on his way to the -50 kg final.

Second seed Carlos Filho (BRA) in the -50kg class was also eliminated, but the third and fourth seed made it to their respective semifinals. Husiyeev (AZE) then lost to Toptygin and had to settle for a chance to win bronze in the final block later in the day. Pereira of Brazil, the third seed, was the one who made it to the final along with Toptygin, going through his half of the draw with ease.

Cadet world ranking fifth Carlos Filho (BRA) wins his semi-final.

Last year’s winner in the -50kg weight category was back in Lima for more, now competing in a higher weight class. Nihad Mamishov defeated opponents from Canada, Poland and Hungary on his way to the semifinals, where he defeated number two seed Khazar Heydarov (UKR) to reach his second Cadet World Championship final. His opponent in the afternoon session will be Bat-Enerel Batbileg (MGL), who put in a brave performance in the morning session.

The 2023 Cadet World Champion – 50 kg, Nihad Mamishov (AZE), worked hard in the transition phases throughout the day.

In the women’s category, the -44kg category was dominated by Slovakian number one Patricia Tomankova, who has been ranked number one in the world for two years. Her path to the final was virtually unchallenged, securing her a third cadet medal at the World Championships after winning bronze in Sarajevo in 2022 and gold in Zagreb in 2023. She also won the European cadet title this year, building an impressive resume.

Tomankova (SVK) domains.

Juliana Yamasaki (BRA) followed the seedings perfectly and joined Tomankova in the final, ensuring that the strongest competitors would fight for the gold medal in the final block.

Cadet and world number two Juliana Yamasaki (BRA) has no problems reaching the final in the class up to 44 kg.

In the -40 kg category, all 4 top seeds made it to the semifinals. There were no surprises at all in this category, which is a surprise in itself! Number one seed Aiora Martin Carriches (ESP) sent number 4 seed Aurora Ferro (ITA) into battle for the bronze medal, while Mathilde Aurel from France did the same with third seed Sandra Walendzik (POL).

The Spanish participant secured her place in the world final.

The final block begins at 4pm local time. Tune in to JudoTV to keep up with all the action.
