Deadpool almost visited the Marvel Comics universe in “Deadpool and Wolverine.”

After the premiere of ‘Deadpool and Wolverine‘ in July 2024, all sorts of anecdotes and stories about its development process still appear. In this case, a Marvel Studios artist has shown concept art of a canceled humorous gag from the film, which consisted of Deadpool traveling to the Marvel Comics universe to be an Avenger, where he met a group similar to the six original Avengers from the film. MCU.

Deadpool’s multiversal travels

On 22 August Andy Park, Director of Visual Development at Marvel Studioshas shared a concept image of Deadpool and Wolverine, showing the big-mouthed mercenary alongside the six original MCU Avengers: Thor, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Hulk, Iron Man and Captain AmericaThe peculiarity of the artwork is that it is an image that seems to be taken directly from the comics, which shows that at some point during the development of the film there was an intention to add a scene or a gag with these characters animated in this way.

“In my last post, I honored my first boss (and creator of Deadpool) in @robliefeld,” Park said on his Instagram account. “In this post, I’ll show you how I honored MANY comic book legends during pre-production on the movie DEADPOOL AND WOLVERINE, before there was even a script. I proposed a fun idea where Deadpool would jump through multiverses and arrive in the MCU, the Marvel COMICS universe! And each character would exist in the art style of a legendary comic book artist. Each of them inspired me a lot!”

As the artist himself notes, it is also noticeable that each of the characters shown in the illustration was designed in the style of a relevant character from Marvel Publishing throughout its long history. Although Park does not say which authors they are and asks his followers to guess, Hulk seems to have the style of Sal BuscemaIron Man in the style of Robert Laytonand Captain America “a la” Jack KirbyThis illustration was very well received by fans, but they regret that this strange scene did not make it into the final version of the feature film.
