Death of Matthew Perry: Arrests in connection with overdose

An arrest was made in Southern California on Thursday in connection with the death of actor Matthew Perry.

Several media outlets, including NBC News, report that at least one arrest has been made following the “Friends” star’s death from an accidental overdose last year.

TMZ reports, citing law enforcement sources, that several arrests have been made, including at least one doctor and “several dealers who helped organize and supply ketamine to Perry.”

According to the Associated Press, authorities have scheduled a press conference in Los Angeles to provide further details later in the day.

Perry, 54, was found facedown in the heated end of a pool at his Pacific Palisades home on Oct. 28, 2023. The Los Angeles County coroner’s office attributed his death to the acute effects of ketamine, an anesthetic with psychedelic properties.

The death was ruled an accident, and no third-party negligence was suspected. Drowning and other medical problems contributed to the death, the coroner said at the time.

Perry struggled with addiction for years, dating back to his time on “Friends,” when he became one of the biggest television stars of his generation in the role of Chandler Bing alongside Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc and David Schwimmer for ten seasons from 1994 to 2004.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
