DeKalb hopes to open new Marriott-branded hotel by summer 2025 – Shaw Local

DeKALB – A 120-room hotel called Fairfield Inn and Suites by Marriott and the other half called TownPlace Suites by Marriott could be built in DeKalb.

The plaintiff, Pramit Patel of EO5 Hotels, approached members of the DeKalb Planning and Zoning Commission on Monday, asking for their assistance in a request to approve a final development plan for construction of the hotel at 902 N. Peace Road, DeKalb.

The committee voted 4-0 to continue the project. Chairman Max Maxwell and Commissioner Trixy O’Flaherty were absent.

Monday’s vote was not the final word on the matter. The DeKalb City Council has yet to voice its opinion.

Patel said he hopes the city will support his cause.

Patel owns and operates the Hampton Inn and Home2 Suites hotels on South Annie Glidden Road in DeKalb.

“We have been working with city staff since the preliminary plan was approved and making the changes they requested – the questions about the entrance and certain things that we are going through right now are all being answered,” Patel said.

According to city documents, the hotel’s final zoning plan modified the access to the site to provide safer and more efficient access than the preliminary zoning plan.

In May 2023, the City Council approved rezoning and the creation of a preliminary development plan for the construction of a four-story, 121-room Marriott-branded hotel.

City Planner Olson said the city recommends granting the applicant’s request.

City officials said project managers would like to begin construction on the hotel in early September and complete work by the end of summer 2025.

Patel said he was excited about the prospect of building another hotel in the city.

“We are proud to have some of the best hotels in the country,” Patel said.

At the meeting, Olson also pointed out that a position on the committee was vacant due to the resignation of Commissioner Shannon Stoker.

Olson thanked Stoker for her service to the city.

“We appreciate their help,” Olson said.

Olson said the city is accepting applications for the open position.

“We will try to fill this as quickly as possible,” Olson said.
