Delta is currently investigating how a man boarded the wrong flight. A family says he followed them

ATLANTA– Delta Air Lines said Friday it was investigating the case of a man who allegedly followed a family through the terminal and then boarded the family’s plane without a ticket earlier this month.

The incident occurred at Washington Dulles International Airport.

“Delta has procedures in place for gate agents and flight crew to verify prior to departure that individuals on board the aircraft are customers booked on that specific flight,” the airline said in a statement. “Delta is reviewing the matter internally and has been in contact with airport authorities in connection with that review.”

Lauren Benton told ABC News that she noticed a man who appeared to follow her, her husband and their two young children into the terminal, even into a women’s restroom. She said as they boarded the plane, the man followed them and sat in their row.

Benton said her husband confronted the man and a flight attendant asked to see his boarding pass, which he could not produce.

The man was escorted off the plane. According to the Transportation Security Administration, he had a valid ID and a boarding pass for a later flight, which explains how he got through security.
