Diamondbacks “one of the best teams in baseball”

The Arizona Diamondbacks are in top form.

Arizona has won six games in a row, including road victories against the Miami Marlins and Boston Red Sox. With a 75-56 record, the team has climbed the MLB playoff standings and is currently in the running for the first wild card spot in the 2024 MLB postseason.

The DBacks have also jumped up the MLB rankings and now occupy places between 8th and 3rd place.

Yes, number 3.

One MLB insider wrote of Arizona’s resurgence: “When you play more than 20 games with a record above .500 for nearly three months, you have earned the right to be called one of the best teams in baseball.”

Sportsnaut: Diamondbacks jump three places to 3rd place

Matt Johnson writes: “The Arizona Diamondbacks are one of the best MLB teams in 2024. Arizona entered Friday with the most wins in August (14), the most wins since July 1 (31) and the best record since June 1 (47-24). When you play more than 20 games over .500 for nearly three months, you’ve earned the right to be called one of the best teams in baseball. Now Arizona has a chance to climb even higher in the MLB rankings in September if it can navigate its upcoming games against the Mets and Los Angeles Dodgers.”

Press Box Online: Diamondbacks rise six places to 5th place

Stan Charles writes: “Since the break, the D-backs are 26-8, keeping the Dodgers on their toes. Jordan Montgomery, one of the best free agents available last offseason, was moved to the bullpen after posting a 6.44 ERA in 19 starts. The left-hander recently said his former agent, Scott Boras, “kind of screwed up” his free agency. He can’t take responsibility for the fact that signing on March 29 and missing spring training was a terrible idea.”

Bleacher Report: Diamondbacks climb three places to 5th place

Joel Reuter writes: “The D-backs were one game over .500 on July 22 with a record of 51-50, and if the season had ended that day, they would have finished sixth in the wild-card standings and missed the postseason. Since then, they’ve gone 24-6 in their last 30 games, flying up the standings and have a virtually assured chance of defending last year’s surprising NL title. The fact that they’re doing so despite Jordan Montgomery being demoted to the bullpen, Paul Sewald being removed from the closer’s role and Ketel Marte, Christian Walker and Gabriel Moreno all being on the injured list speaks to their impressive overall depth.”

MLB.com: Diamondbacks move up one spot to No. 8

Will Leitch writes: “The Diamondbacks have been so successful lately that they are now on pace for 92 wins, which would be their fourth-best winning percentage in franchise history… and better than the 2001 and 2023 teams, both of which reached the World Series.”

Gabe Lacques writes: “Jordan Montgomery has been demoted to the bullpen, which means Merrill Kelly is back and Ryne Nelson is throwing well.”
