DirecTV launches new onboard IPTV service with Satcom Direct

DirecTV Inflight launches an IPTV service for business aviation in collaboration with business aviation solutions provider Satcom Direct.

This groundbreaking media streaming technology provides aviation business customers with access to live TV programming. Unlike previous systems, this solution is completely hardware-free and allows passengers to access media directly via the aircraft’s Wi-Fi network, ensuring seamless streaming and a truly modern in-flight experience.

This isn’t just another channel package – it’s the first DirecTV inflight service to use satellite connections to give private aviation passengers a completely digital experience. Now they can watch live sports from national games to their local teams, ensuring they don’t miss a moment even at 40,000 feet.

The service also offers a comprehensive selection of live news, weather and entertainment programming and can be seamlessly integrated into Satcom Direct plans or purchased and accessed separately through the DIRECTV app and compatible Amazon Fire TV Stick and Roku devices.

This flexibility allows passengers to enjoy their favorite TV shows and movies on personal devices and displays in the cabin, ensuring a first-class viewing experience at all times.

“At DirecTV, we are committed to providing the most innovative technology solutions on the market,” said Kimberly de Flesco, Director of Aviation Strategy at DirecTV Inflight. “Our new IPTV service redefines what has previously been possible for in-flight entertainment in private aviation, and we are excited to begin this journey with Satcom Direct and bring our comprehensive range of live TV programming to a new audience.”
The IPTV service is designed for performance regardless of network conditions and is compatible with both GEO and LEO constellations. Robust security measures also help protect content and user data.

The new service integrates seamlessly with existing in-flight entertainment systems and hardware. Passengers can enjoy high-definition content, on-demand access and a user-friendly interface optimized for in-flight use. In addition, the service can be customized to include valuable business resources such as training videos, educational content and industry conferences.

“We are always looking to expand our portfolio of high-quality, flexible services for our customers. This latest addition to our Satcom Direct ecosystem allows passengers who subscribe to the DirecTV service to enjoy live TV just as they would at home or in the office,” said Michael Skou Christensen, Chief Commercial Officer at Satcom Direct. “This service provides significant value to our customers without the need to add additional hardware to the aircraft. We are proud to partner with DirecTV as a distributor for this service.”

With this unprecedented service, DirecTV Inflight is not only keeping pace with the evolution of in-flight entertainment, it is leading the way. By being the first to bring this comprehensive, sports-centric offering to the skies, DirecTV Inflight is setting a new standard in the private aviation industry.
