DoD Announces Implementation of Online Housing Feedback System > Air Education and Training Command > Article View

The Department of Defense announced on August 12 the launch of the DoD Housing Feedback System, an initiative designed to improve transparency and accountability in military housing privatized by the Department of Defense. The new system allows active military members and their authorized dependents to provide feedback on their current rental unit, ensuring their voices are heard and their concerns addressed in a timely manner.

For residents of the privatized apartments at Maxwell AFB and in the Gunter Annex, this provides the nearly 500 tenants living there with another opportunity to communicate with their privatized landlord and to provide feedback and address any concerns.

The DHFS is now live and can be accessed at https://www.dhfs.mil.

All eligible tenants on site are encouraged to use this system to provide valuable feedback and help the Department continue to improve the quality of military housing.

The launch of this initiative is part of the Department of Defense’s ongoing commitment to improving the quality of life for military members and their families.

The system opens an additional, highly visible communication channel for active duty military members living in privatized military housing and their authorized dependents to provide public feedback on the condition of their current housing unit and receive a response from their privatized landlord. DHFS is intended to supplement, not replace, existing maintenance order submission processes. Residents of privatized military housing should continue to submit work orders through their community’s property manager or other regular channels to receive remedial action for maintenance issues.

“The Department of Defense has a moral obligation to ensure the spaces our Soldiers and their families live in are healthy, functional and resilient,” said Deborah G. Rosenblum, Assistant Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment. “This new feedback system is a critical step to ensure transparent and timely responses to residents’ concerns and is consistent with Secretary Austin’s priority of taking care of our people. We are focused on putting our people’s experiences at the center of all our work.”

The DHFS home screen provides options for accessing the official OSD/Department of Military residence web pages, which contain web links where you can:

  • Place a maintenance order for repairs directly with the landlord’s property management.
  • Initiate the dispute resolution process if you are dissatisfied with the work experience.
  • Find a copy of the Privatized Housing Tenants’ Bill of Rights.
  • Look for contact information for the Military Housing Office and privatized landlords or their property managers.
  • If you are concerned that you may be at risk of retaliation for providing feedback, please visit the Department of Defense Hotline website.

In total, the Maxwell AFB and Gunter Annex housing complex consists of more than 500 apartments, housing nearly 500 tenants and more than 1,000 dependents. At Maxwell AFB, military family housing is privatized and Maxwell Family Housing, a Hunt Military Community, owns the family housing and is responsible for the maintenance, repair, construction and management of the community.

“The information collected in this feedback system will be critical to communicating open, unfiltered concerns and compliments to the Military Housing Office and Hunt Military Communities. This will be a powerful tool to help us best care for Soldiers and their families,” said Brian White, 42nd Air Base Wing privatized housing advocate.
