Donald Trump was somehow surprised that the governor of New York was not nice to him during the Democratic Party Convention

The dozens of speakers who have appeared at the Democratic Convention since Monday have had many unkind things to say about Donald Trump. Factual, justified and necessary? Yes. But not the kind of thing you would say about someone you like and/or who would like to be the leader of the free world again. The president of the United Auto Workers called Trump a “strikebreaker.” Hillary Clinton reminded everyone that he was convicted of 34 serious crimes. Michelle Obama referred to his numerous business failures and noted that he had been saved by “the positive discrimination of generational wealth.” Barack Obama mocked his “weird obsession” with crowd sizes. One former supporter said he was embarrassed to admit he once voted for Trump, while another declared the former colleague “disgusts me deeply.”

But which speaker apparently hurt the ex-president the most? The governor of New York Kathy Hochul, about whom Trump bitterly complained on Wednesday that she had not been nice to him during her speech on Monday evening.

“Kathy Hochul, the very unpopular Governor of New York, was the nastiest speaker on Monday night (at the Democratic National Convention) towards your favorite President, me,” Trump ranted to his supporters on Truth Social. “Her hatred and comments about me knew no bounds. I was astonished for two reasons: First, I have done GREAT work in New York, employed thousands of people, built some of the most beautiful and accomplished buildings, and paid billions of dollars in taxes. And second, if I win the Presidency, wouldn’t it be better for the people of New York State to have a Governor who gets along with the President? Adversarial relationships are not good in politics! I am unjustly facing a very biased and hateful New York judicial system that is appointed and largely controlled by the Governor. With the vitriol she displayed Monday night, it’s no wonder the judges treated me so badly. The whole system is RIGGED and businesses are leaving because of it!!!”

Trump’s allegations are, of course, completely absurd for several reasons. For one thing, the claim that he did a “GREAT job” in New York is not entirely true. He was accused of defrauding several contractors in the state and was found guilty of committing rampant fraud there for years. His company was found guilty of tax fraud. The Plaza Hotel filed for bankruptcy during his time in office.

Meanwhile, the idea that Hochul should be nice to him because he could win the presidency and “hostile relations are not good in politics” is completely absurd. Hochul, like other Democrats, is doing everything she can to make sure he doesn’t win, and that includes reminding people what a nightmare his second term would be. And hello? This man’s entire existence is based on “hostile relations”! Trump literally threatened to cut off federal funding to New York during COVID! He spends most of his time attacking people on social media and has called his political opponents vermin! But now he’s furious because Hochul didn’t use her speech to say nice things about him.
