English dubbing review: Ishura “Shura”

Overview (spoilers below):

Each Shura goes to Aureatia with his or her motives.

Our opinion:

I’d say we’ve reached the end of the season. However, that doesn’t mean everything will be rosy from here on out. First of all, the war is over and most of the characters didn’t survive the onslaught, especially the Shuras, whose dreams were shattered by their deaths. Unsurprisingly, the hit series joins the season finale as Lana was the next to die after she was mysteriously poisoned by Elea. Of course, this war is due to Taren’s quest for power, which cost the lives of everyone around her, including her adopted daughter. As a result, she is forced to face Kuze and Nastique, leaving viewers guessing about her fate. I suspect she perished off-screen during the fight.

Fortunately, only a few characters survived long enough to continue their stories in season two. Some of them are Soujiro and Yuno, who recently escaped from the clutches of Dakai and traveled on to Aureatia. The others are Kia and Elea, who are trying to control Kia’s extraordinary powers in time for the tournament. However, their relationship may soon be tested in season two, as Elea keeps Lana’s death a secret from the young Shura. Finally, we have Alus, the Star Runner, who now has a new reason to enter the competition: to fight and potentially kill Hargent the Silent.

We also learned from a flashback that Aureatia’s young Queen Sephite was responsible for creating the tournament that would help the kingdom choose the “true hero.” This particular competition would no doubt serve as a concept for the series’ second season, which hopefully will pique my interest in Ishura. That being said, despite some narrative flaws, I think the series had enough qualities to deliver a depressing yet compelling portrayal of war and hopelessness. Considering season two was announced in March, we should have gotten more news about when we’re expected to reunite with the Shuras. Given the ending, I hope the news comes sooner rather than later.

I recently joined BubbleBlabber as a writer and have an extraordinary passion for movies and TV, especially from the animation genre. I have also spent many hours playing video games, especially from the Kingdom Hearts series. My goal is to write the friendliest and most entertaining reviews in the world. Regardless of whether something is good or not, I always remain optimistic and curious about a particular concept from a movie or TV show.
