Erik Jones agrees to a multi-year contract extension with the Legacy Motor Club

Erik Jones has agreed to a multi-year contract extension with Legacy Motor Club, the team announced on Tuesday.

The 28-year-old Michigan native is in his fourth year with the organization previously known as Petty GMS Racing. He will continue to drive the team’s No. 43 car.

“Erik is one of the most talented drivers in NASCAR. I’ve had the chance to compete against him and watch him drive for other teams and the club,” co-owner Jimmie Johnson said in a team statement. “I admire his talent and am happy to have him drive for us for years to come.”

“Erik will play a key role in turning our program around and we look forward to giving him the tools he needs to go out on Sundays and compete for wins and maybe even a championship one day.”

Bubba Wallace reached the last playoff spot after his fourth place in Richmond.

This is the Legacy Motor Club’s second year and its first season with Toyota Racing Development.

Jones has won three Cup titles during his career, including two victories in the Southern 500.

“I’m excited about what we can build at Legacy Motor Club,” Jones said in a statement from the team. “I’ve been racing the No. 43 car for a few years now and I feel like I’m entering the prime years of my career. I hope to grow alongside Legacy MC in the coming seasons.”
