The Marvel vs. Capcom franchise crashed in late 2017 with the release of the ill-fated Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, whose graphics, presentation, and set-up turned off fans so quickly that many didn’t even bother trying out the gameplay. Infinite’s failures were enough to bankrupt the franchise, but not enough to kill the spirit of the MvC fanbase.

With no new game to play, the community showed its continued enthusiasm by turning back to older titles. Modders updated Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 with the Community Edition in 2023, and now we’re getting a fan-supported update for Infinite. While it’s still a work in progress, Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite and Beyond has been developed enough that we’ll get a new gameplay showcase this Friday, and we’ve got some screenshots to tide you over until then.

Super Smash Bros. celebrated its 25th anniversary this year. The series now includes five main titles and features a total of almost 100 characters from Nintendo and pretty much everyone else.

But what happens if you tried to rank every single version of every character that appeared in Smash Bros. on Nintendo 64, Melee, Brawl, Wii U, and Ultimate? Well, you get this wild ranking.

It’s one thing to take the time and creativity to create your own cosplay. It’s another thing to have the confidence to wear that cosplay at an event like Evo, where countless others are doing the same. And it’s another thing yet to enter the Evo Cosplay Contest to be judged on stage among the best of the best.

Chonibu arrived in Las Vegas with her Street Fighter 6 Kimberly Alternate 3 cosplay still incomplete, finished it in her hotel room, went to the event floor, and took first place in the Evo 2024 cosplay contest. Seeing photos of this top-notch shoot, it’s no wonder she won the gold medal.

When we see our favorite fighting game players (or other professionals) dominating their field, they may seem invincible, but they are still just people like everyone else with a past and a story to tell.

BST|Daigo Umehara has been traveling the world for over two decades and competing for three decades, although of course his life experience extends beyond pure fighting games.

After nearly 40 years, Street Fighter gets its first guest character from another developer, and it’s a good one.

Following M. Bison, Fatal Fury’s Terry Bogard is next in the Street Fighter 6 cast for Season 2, and some lucky people will have the chance to play Wild Wolf in just a few weeks.

It’s human nature to resist change because something no longer looks, feels, tastes, or behaves the way we remember it. Yet that change can often bring us things we didn’t know we wanted before.

Fighting games seem to go through phases where they either hark back to the classics or try to shake up the norms, which can result in great new interpretations of the icons of our genre.

Dhalsim from Street Fighter and Scorpion from Mortal Kombat have one very obvious similarity – and no, it’s not that they both have ranged attacks. These two iconic fighting game characters both heavily use fire in their movesets, and even more similar is the fact that they both have attacks and maneuvers that involve breathing fire from their mouths.

Although it seems pretty obvious in hindsight, it never occurred to me to put one of the characters on a regular lighter to make it look like they were doing one of their signature flame attacks. But that’s exactly why Goh_Billy is the best in the business when it comes to creating real-world items with fighting game cues.

Street Fighter 6’s Season 2 update has been available to the public for just over two months now. Since its implementation, two new DLC characters have joined the fray and several major events, including the biggest open bracket event of the year, Evo, have kicked off with the new patch.

Now that we’ve spent quite a while on the Season 2 update and the game’s newest and first DLC character in this year’s Character Pass, M. Bison, it’s time to take a closer look at where the game stands today. Today I’m sharing my first Street Fighter 6 Season 2 tier list, ranking all 23 of the game’s characters from strongest to weakest.

Almost every controller a fighting game player chooses has its own “story,” and the same goes for the manufacturers, even if we don’t often get to see what they use.

Longtime Tekken director Katsuhiro Harada recently revealed what he has likely been using as his personal arcade stick for many years and what has a very special meaning to the developer.

It’s been a strange few years for the developers under the Warner Bros. Games umbrella, and that’s especially true for the makers of Mortal Kombat, Injustice and MultiVersus.

Given ongoing financial problems and falling share prices, Warner Bros. Discovery is reportedly looking to divest its gaming division… again.

The problem with us fighting game players is that we are never satisfied. I say that tongue in cheek, because balancing a fighting game is a near-impossible task that will never please everyone. And I have to say right from the start that Street Fighter 6 is far more balanced than most other franchise entries.

However, we are still fighting game players and we are not happy with that. While it is fair to say that many characters in SF6 have similar abilities, it is obviously insanely difficult to remain consistent in the game. This could indicate a problem with competitive balance and also happens to be the focus of Broski’s latest video.

In less than a month, Mortal Kombat 1 will celebrate its first anniversary, and although relatively interesting DLC additions have provided variety, discussions about the game continue to be more negative than positive.

The developers at NetherRealm Studios don’t seem to have quite found their rhythm when it comes to gameplay in MK1, mainly due to how the Kameo dynamic affects combat, but also due to the presence of silly and unintentional sequences like the one Evo 2024 champion SonicFox recently showed off on X.

As excitement continues to build over the recently announced Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection, the mighty JM Crofts has released a new Marvel vs. Capcom 2 tier list, ranking each and every one of the game’s 56 characters.

Marvel vs. Capcom 2 is nearly a quarter of a century old, coming from a markedly different time when enthusiasm for certain Marvel characters (and Marvel itself) wasn’t as widespread as it is today. Fighting game balancing practices were also largely immature compared to modern approaches, and combining those two truths results in a ranking that conspicuously violates some rules that developers of an MvC game in 2024 would likely have to abide by.

It’s been 6 months since Tekken 8 was officially released, and even though we just got Lidia Sobieska as the second DLC character, it seems like it’s already time for a new update.

Bandai Namco is currently performing server maintenance for Tekken to implement the new version 1.06.02 update for the fighting game, for which we now have the patch notes.

It’s a little crazy considering that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is celebrating its sixth anniversary in just a few months, and the competitive scene has continued to evolve and change despite the fact that there haven’t been any balance updates in nearly three years.

Luminosity Gaming recently brought together some of the best players of all time, including MkLeo, Maister, Sonix, Tweek, and Marss, to create a combined Smash Ultimate leaderboard with a twist.
