A car crash involving a power pole in the early hours of this morning cut off power to around 130 homes in the East End.

Belco employees spent the entire day repairing the damage. By 8 p.m., power was restored to all buildings.

This comes after a power outage left many residents of eastern communities in the dark last Monday.

Shelly Leman, Managing Director at Belco, said: “On Sunday 11 August, at around 4am, a vehicle collided with an electricity pole in the Stokes Point area, St David’s.

“This resulted in a power outage for around 130 customers.

“Belco teams were dispatched and had to replace the power pole and repair damaged overhead lines.”

She added that crews were working to restore power to remaining customers as quickly as possible, and a spokesperson said power had been restored to all customers by around 8 p.m.

Last Monday, there was a power outage shortly before 10 p.m., affecting around 9,000 customers at its peak.

Ms Leman said at the time that Belco staff were immediately dispatched and power was restored to all customers shortly after 11 p.m.

The power company investigated the cause of the power outage.

UPDATE: This article has been updated to reflect that power has been restored to all affected customers
