Fans have to choose a side for the tennis ball’s hotel suite at the US Open: yellow or green? Also: Roger Federer’s answer

While Novak Djokovic and Coco Gauff focus on defending their US Open titles in Monday’s first round of main draw matches, festive events are taking place across New York City to give fans a comprehensive look at tennis culture.

Kimpton Hotel Eventi opened its doors to a unique, exclusive new suite, the Rally Room, where fans can have their say and help answer a long-standing question in sport: Is a tennis ball green or yellow?

For decades, players and fans have argued about the true color of the colorful balls – even Roger Federer confidently claimed in 2018 that “they are yellow,” further fueling the debate about the cheerful color scheme.

The suite itself is split exactly down the middle – similar to Americans surveyed on the issue, with 56% saying yellow and 44% saying green – to accommodate both sides of the court.

One half of the room is decorated in bright green and the other half features striking yellow elements.

The green side includes: a mini lamp filled with a tennis ball, a plush green rug, stylish green pillows and blankets, a candy bowl full of green treats, bright green low-top sneakers, a visor and a tennis racket.
