Today best known as a co-creator of comic series such as The boys And preacher, Garth Ennis is no stranger to having his comics adapted for the screen. In addition to the television series based on these two titles, the comics written by Ennis served as inspiration for the 2005 film Constantine (Hellblazer: Dangerous Habits), 2008 Punisher: Warzone (PunisherMAX) and Netflix’ Daredevil Season 2 (Punisher MAX #7-12). Now comes the news that Ennis has written a screenplay based on his original from 2008-2010 Crossed Series published by Avatar Press and featuring art by Jacen Burrows. Ennis once said about the creation of his now infamous original Crossed Series: “I had a dream that I thought was about zombies attacking a house full of victims, but it turned out they weren’t zombies at all. They were just people grinning with psychotic glee as they thought about what they were going to do to the residents of the house – which wasn’t going to be anything nice. Then I woke up.” Even in a pop culture world where ordinary zombies have become mainstream, Crossed Ennis and Burrows’ series has left its mark.

Ennis also explained what the basis of this unusual series is. “It would certainly take an infection or some other unusual phenomenon to put everyone into a Crossed-type state at once and keep them there. That’s the invention that history needs to work. However, the kinds of acts you see in history are not invented at all. A quick look at the history books reveals all kinds of depraved activities; thousands upon thousands of horrible things we’ve done to each other since the beginning of time.”

Beyond the original ten-part series by Ennis and Burrows Crossed Saga eventually grew to include works by several creators, including Alan Moore, Jamie Delano, Kieron Gillenand other, The film will include over 150 issues and 24 collected volumes. Independent production company Six Studios will finance the film. Crossed is produced by Six Studios’ Carl Choi, Ben Hung by Retro Entertainment and Ken Levin by Nightsky Productions. Jeff Huang by Six Studios, Carl Amari, Bill Patterson, and Ennis will serve as executive producer.
