First look at Skyler Gisondo’s character in Superman 2025 proves James Gunn is a casting mastermind

James Gunn’s DC Universe is currently undergoing a major reconstruction and re-alignment, with the main framework of the comic book universe being surgically repaired after the traumas of the past 11 years. In the central triarchy, Superman rises to the occasion before anyone else, while David Corenswet takes up the mantle left to him by the oh-so-controversial Henry Cavill.

To meet James Gunn’s personal ambitions, Superman will receive a live-action adaptation as faithful to the original as possible, with Corenswet already taking his cues from his comic book counterpart. In the meantime, the director and CEO of DC Studios is conjuring up a version of the studio’s new chapter that will determine whether the DC film universe will survive in this era of superhero fatigue.

James Gunn occupies the perfect Superman Roster

With Zack Snyder’s tenure generating more controversy and opposition than it’s worth, James Gunn is taking a new approach to creating his new DC Universe from the ground up, replacing Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck with a younger, fresher version of the dynamic duo.

David Corenswet from Hollywood Fame, the new Superman will follow in Cavill’s wake, and fans are perfectly happy with this choice as he looks strikingly similar to both his predecessor and his comic book counterpart.

The supporting cast includes Rachel Brosnahan (The Wonderful Mrs. Maisel) was announced as the famous investigative journalist Lois Lane and the love interest of Superman/Clark Kent. Meanwhile, X-Men star Nicholas Hoult was cast as Superman’s arch-nemesis and super-genius Lex Luthor.

The most striking character cast as Superman’s sidekick, however, is Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen. A recent behind-the-scenes photo posted by the DC boss on Twitter, showing Gisondo in full costume and getup, proves just how perfect Gunn’s eye for casting is.

In the words of a Reddit fan ChibzyDaze, “Red hair, freckles, mischievous smile. I’d say that looks pretty good.” while another fan Individual_Second387, “He feels like everyone’s best friend and has huge, goofy energy.”

James Gunn Superman Wants to make history in 2025

The DC Cinematic Universe was founded at the end of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which in turn contributed significantly to superhero fatigue. As a result, the success rate of decisions in favor of James Gunn is already shockingly low.

Despite all the odds, however, DC has put up an optimistic front with a radically opposite approach to building its franchise. With a heightened and razor-sharp attention to comic-accurate storytelling, James Gunn is making a smart choice with his casting choices and the few behind-the-scenes leaks showing Superman’s new costume, red pants and all included.

With a summer premiere Superman is looking to make history with its release in front of a global audience that is waiting with anticipation and bated breath. David Corenswet has big shoes to fill and a big shadow to leave behind in the wake of the DCEU era and its influence on modern pop culture.

Superman Premiere on July 11, 2025.
