FIU named best value university by Princeton Review | FIU News

The good news keeps coming. One day after welcoming 5,300 new students to campus, FIU received the highest national ranking for the second time this week.

The Princeton Review has named FIU one of the top 50 public universities with the best value for money. According to the ranking, the “exceptional characteristics” that allow an institution to be included in this elite category include:

  • outstanding academics
  • affordable cost (either a low list price or generous financial support or both)
  • good career prospects for graduates

The combined data places FIU among the top public universities with a high return on investment – a measure that evaluates the financial value of studying at a particular university. To determine the “ROI” of a particular university, a comparison is made between the cost of tuition for students and their ability to find a well-paying job after graduation.

FIU ranked 34th. Only 50 of the hundreds of public universities examined were praised for their high ROI and therefore received the “best value” rating.

The Princeton Review put it differently and more simply in its statement: It described the schools as “the best value for money.”

The Princeton Review is the leading educational services company dedicated to helping students prepare for college and achieve their academic goals.

The ranking follows the annual publication of the Washington Monthly College guides and rankingswhich recognizes universities for both their research excellence and their efforts to ensure the success of students of all backgrounds. The publication evaluates four-year institutions based on their contribution to the public good in three broad categories: social mobility, research, and promoting public service. FIU ranks 3rd among public universities.
