Five people have been charged in connection with a botched burglary attempt at a Franklin Lakes home early Saturday morning after two suspects tried to flee from police in a getaway car that overturned, police said.

The wild scene began when a homeowner on Birch Road spotted two people in her home around 4 a.m. and called 911. When police arrived, they saw a white 2016 Ford Fusion speeding away and gave chase, police Capt. Robert Grassi said.

The Fusion sped south for about two miles before rolling over on Russell Avenue in Wyckoff. Two suspects were arrested by Franklin Lakes Police Officer Stephanie Cestaro with assistance from Wyckoff Police. The two suspects were taken to Bergen New Bridge Medical Center in Paramus for evaluation before being transported to the Bergen County Jail in Hackensack.

Meanwhile, police from several cities combed the Birch Road neighborhood, using a drone and a canine unit to search for other possible suspects. Two people spotted by Franklin Lake Police Chief Mark McCombs at nearby Glen Place were arrested after attempting to flee from police. One of the suspects had a handgun, police said.

A fifth suspect was arrested after a homeowner in Glen Place spotted him on a video camera on her property.

The five were accused of burglary, and the following people are on the run:

  • Jahmier Wilson, 21, of Rochelle Park
  • Rafael Rosario, 27, of Paterson
  • Shanor Collins, 18, of Paterson
  • Bradly Rosario, 18, of the Bronx, New York, who was also charged with illegal possession of a handgun
  • Yazmir Collins, 20, of Paterson

All were taken to the Bergen County Jail.
