Flight attendant who served Queen Elizabeth reveals monarch's wishes during flight

Elizabeth Evans served Queen Elizabeth II during her tour of Singapore and Malaysia

As a flight attendant who once served the longest-reigning monarch revealed in her notes, Queen Elizabeth II drank a martini before greeting her guests in the air and slept on her pillows from home on the plane.

The Queen “likes to have a martini before her guests arrive,” said Elizabeth Evans, who worked for British Airways for 28 years, in her notes, which are to be auctioned on Thursday.

In 1989, Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip were Evans’ VIP guests on a British Airways royal flight during a tour of Singapore and Malaysia.

Evans, who died in 2017 at the age of 70, also received a certificate to commemorate the occasion.

In her notes, she also revealed that Queen Elizabeth II, the monarch who reigned from February 1952 until her death in September 2022, asked for a bowl of velamint to have on hand before departure and in her dressing room.

The hairdresser had made her bed and no one was allowed to wake her if she was sleeping when the plane landed, said Hansons Auctioneers, which is auctioning the late flight attendant’s collection, citing Evans.

“If Her Majesty was asleep prior to landing, the cabin crew were instructed not to disturb her. She was to remain in her bed,” the auction house said.

During her time at British Airways, Evans also served several celebrities on board Concorde, the world’s first commercial supersonic airliner.

Her memorabilia will be auctioned off, with an estimated value of between $500 and $760.
