Flight delay due to Tropical Storm Debby

WINDSOR LOCKS, Conn. (WGGB/WSHM) – As Tropical Storm Debby approaches the Northeast, frustration is growing at Bradley International Airport as many have their travel plans in limbo. For some, Debby has brought a little unwanted rain to their vacation plans, but for others, the tropical storm has thrown travel plans into disarray.

Mahogany Moncrief and her family have finally returned home from Orlando after days of travel nightmares.

“We missed flights, flights were cancelled, flights were delayed, sometimes we didn’t know which way was up and which way was down.”

Moncrief and her family were supposed to return to Connecticut on Monday, but Debby had other plans.

“We all found our way, little by little, but we got here,” she said.

They were on vacation in Florida when Hurricane Debby made landfall.

“There were some tornadoes, some houses were knocked down nearby, so we definitely got a little bit of the storm,” she told us.

What she didn’t know at the time was that her family’s travel nightmare had only just begun.

“We arrived at the airport and that’s when I got the text message that our flight was cancelled. At that point we were in a rush, trying to rebook our flights, trying to get a room for our family.”

Moncrief is not alone. As Tropical Storm Debby continues to rage across the Carolinas, the slow-moving storm has grounded hundreds of flights.

On Wednesday, dozens of delays and a few cancellations at Bradley International Airport caused headaches for travelers.

“About twenty minutes before our scheduled boarding, I received an email from the airline saying we were delayed,” traveler Nahia Ortiz told us.

In others, the disturbances were not due to the sky.

“It rained very, very heavily, there was a little bit of hail,” claimed traveler Mark Torre. “That affected the last few days of the cruise. The boat rocked really, really badly.”

Torre said his vacation wasn’t a complete disaster — he told us the rain gave him a much-needed break from the Sunshine State heat.
