Flight to the USA has to make an emergency landing at Manchester Airport

A flight from Germany to the USA had to be diverted to Manchester Airport and make an emergency landing. Lufthansa flight DLH44 – from Frankfurt, Germany, to Atlanta, America – was apparently diverted over the coast of Scotland.

A spokesperson for Manchester Airport confirmed the Airbus A330 landed at around midday on Saturday 24 August. It is believed the flight was diverted because a passenger on board suffered a medical incident. The MEN reported that a passenger complained of chest pains, prompting the captain to decide to divert the flight.

When the plane landed in Manchester, it was met on the runway by emergency services, including firefighters, as per regulations, but the airport confirmed that no fire service intervention was required. Paramedics on site are also said to have examined the passenger.

The passenger’s condition is unknown and it is unclear how many passengers were on board the flight when it was forced to make an emergency landing on UK soil. An airport spokesperson told MEN: “The flight was initiated as an emergency flight in accordance with regulations and the fire service was present, who responded but were not required. The delayed flight was due to depart later on Saturday.”
