Flutterwave equips Nigerian online merchants with Amex payments

Africa-based paytech company Flutterwave has enabled its online merchants in Nigeria to accept payments with American Express.

American Express cardholders – personal, business or corporate – can use Flutterwave to pay directly to e-commerce businesses in Nigeria. This service will also be available to Flutterwave merchants in other countries such as Tanzania, Rwanda, Ghana and Uganda in the near future.

Flutterwave has enabled its online merchants in Nigeria to accept payments with American Express.

Benefits for both sides of the transaction

This collaboration expands online transactions and offers significant benefits to both merchants and buyers. Flutterwave merchants can now target a wider customer base, including American Express cardholders in Africa and globally, including both personal and business cardholders. For shoppers, the partnership offers more flexibility in choosing their preferred payment method when shopping at Flutterwave merchants. It also strengthens American Express’ global network by expanding the number of locations in Africa where cardholders can use their cards to purchase various goods and services.

This collaboration will also provide American Express cardholders around the world with more options on where and what they can buy. In a response, American Express representatives said they are continuing their expansion in Africa to provide businesses and consumers with a wider choice of payment options. By agreeing with Flutterwave, they are giving e-commerce merchants in Nigeria the opportunity to reach American Express cardholders around the world. The collaboration is a win-win situation as it also increases the number of places where their cardholders can use their cards in Nigeria.
