Former Chargers playmaker gets job ahead of 2024 season

The Los Angeles Chargers are entering the 2024 season with numerous changes to the roster and coaching staff.

The Chargers have decided to hand over control to Jim Harbaugh, and he is putting together the roster as he sees fit. With training camp still a few weeks away, various players are securing a spot on the roster.

Meanwhile, former Chargers are trying to find somewhere else to go, and one player just landed a job before the second week of the preseason.

According to ESPN’s Jordan Raanan, the New York Giants have signed running back Josh Kelley. The 26-year-old was selected in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft by Los Angeles.

Kelley runs with a steady pace and speed in the backfield, allowing him to get to the secondary quickly and consistently. In four seasons with the Chargers, he completed 320 carries for 1,148 yards and six rushing scores.

With Austin Ekeler and Kelley no longer wearing blue and yellow, the Chargers are now led by Gus Edwards and JK Dobbins.

Both of these guys are known as powerbacks who can wear down a defense. Los Angeles wants to become a more physical football team, and switching tailbacks is one way to accomplish that.

The regular season begins in three weeks, and the anticipation continues to build. On September 8, the Chargers host the Las Vegas Raiders in a divisional game to start the season. In that game, quarterback Justin Herbert will have a new stampede of backs behind him as they look to turn things around in 2024.

According to FanDuel Sportsbook, the Chargers have the second-best odds to win the AFC West at +350.
