Former CNN anchor Don Lemon seemed surprised by historically deep-blue New Jersey, where voters told him they would support Donald Trump in the election. Lemon recently spoke to people in Atlantic City and tried to defend Vice President Harris in a video he released Saturday.

The first interviewee said: “Trump will win” and added that Vice President Harris was not suitable for the lead role.

“Does it have something to do with being a woman?” the former CNN anchor responded, and the person said it had nothing to do with her gender.

Harris quickly took President Biden’s place at the top of the Democratic ticket after Biden announced his withdrawal from the race following weeks of pressure from his fellow Democrats.

“It was much better four years ago. I made a lot more money than I do now,” said another voter.

Lemon disagreed, saying, “I know you feel that way, but the record doesn’t show that the economy has done better under Biden.”

The voter laughed as Lemon added, “No, I’m serious.”

“Do you watch CNN?” the voter replied.

One voter Lemon spoke to said he believed Harris would win the election, but added that he wanted to support Trump because Harris had “no experience.”

Lemon replied: “She is vice president, she is a senator.”

The next woman in the video said she wanted Trump to win and she wanted someone with “a stronger military background.”

Lemon told the interviewee that Harris had been a prosecutor, attorney general, senator and vice president.

Another voter said he supported the former president because of Harris’ record on the immigration and border crisis.

Lemon’s video ended with the reporter saying, “I have to get out of Atlantic City. Where do we go next?”

The former CNN journalist also recently stopped in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and found that most of the voters he spoke to wanted to support Harris.

“It’s about time. We not only have a woman representing the country, but a woman of color. I think she’s going to be able to represent a broader group of people than any other person we’ve ever seen,” one woman told Lemon.

On Wednesday, Harris’ campaign team announced that as president she would introduce a “nationwide ban on price gouging on food and groceries” to prevent “big corporations” from taking advantage of consumers.

Washington Post columnist Catherine Rampell criticized Harris’ proposal, writing, “It’s hard to overstate how bad this policy is.”

“But more importantly, if your opponent claims you’re a ‘communist,’ then maybe you shouldn’t start with an economic agenda that could (accurately) be called government price controls,” she wrote. “We’ve already had enough economic babble from the Republican presidential candidates. Do we really need more from the other side?”
