When an NFL player retires, he usually makes headlines again for the wrong reasons. While there are some cases where this isn’t true, most of the time it’s because he got into trouble or did something unusual.

That’s exactly what happened in this case, where a former first-round pick of the Detroit Lions is alleged to have committed a heinous act that is almost too ridiculous to be true.

Former NFL offensive tackle Gosder Cherilus was selected 17th overall by the Detroit Lions in the 2018 NFL Draft. He started 116 of 132 games during his nine-year NFL career for the Lions, Indianapolis Colts and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

He earned nearly $41 million in his NFL career, which ended after the 2016 season. Now he may have to use some of that earnings after getting into trouble over the weekend.

According to Mike Toole of WBZ News, Cherilus was accused of urinating on a passenger during a Delta Air Lines flight. Cherilus, now 40, is scheduled to be arraigned on Monday.

Massachusetts State Police were called to Boston’s Logan Airport around 2 a.m. ET on Sunday after Delta Flight 154 arrived from Dublin, Ireland. A police statement said the flight was “diverted due to an unruly passenger urinating on another passenger.”

The passenger who allegedly committed this act was Cherilus.

“The police verbally ordered Cherilus to leave the aircraft, but he reacted angrily and refused to cooperate. Eventually, the police escorted Cherilus to the jetway and arrested him for disturbing the peace and disturbing the flight crew.”

Cherilus must have been an intimidating figure considering he was 6’1″ and 300 pounds in the NFL. Yet police were able to escort him out without further incident. Now he faces his day in court.
